Advent Calendars

All year long I wait for the beginning of December so that I may bring out my advent calendar. I love the idea of counting down the days. And we've been counting Decembers for a long time... This tradition began in Germany more than 150 years ago. And it's grown so that there are so many different types of advent calendars... Some are paper, with pictures behind, others hold chocolates behind each door, and some, like mine, have little cupboards for various tiny treasures. Is the Advent Calendar part of your traditions?

  1. I've never had an advent calendar in my house, but when I was in grade school the school had one every year. That was always fun. They had an Advent Wreath as well and we'd all get to watch as the candles were lit. :)

  2. Hi Miss Elena,
I've been missing from Bloglandia over the past several days but am back and would love to know how your Thanksgiving was.
Your calendar is beautiful! Is it wooden? I love the sweet Victorian look it has.

I hope you have a lovely day!
    xoxo Cori

  4. When my children were small I always bought the type with chocolates in each window...it seemed so strange, first thing they would do each morning was pop open the next window and eat their candies like vitamins. Happy memories.

  5. I love the season of Advent! We pass out the paper ones with bible verses behind cut-outs to each of our church kids. At home we have an Advent candle wreath on our kitchen table and light the corresponding candle each evening. I'd love one with chocolate behind each window--but I think I would have a difficult time sharing.......
